Tech billionaire and Republican patron Elon Musk took to social media early Wednesday morning to joke that his favored candidates in this week’s midterm elections had failed. “Guess my election-interfering space lasers didn’t work this time,” he wrote with a shrugging emoji. The X owner’s joke came after he spent more than $445 million to back Republican candidates and conservative super PACs in the midterms. His massive spending overwhelmingly focused on Texas, where Republican Senate nominee Ken Paxton faced Democrat James Talarico.
