All’s fair in politics (and love too?) – and if you’re a Democrat in Virginia, there are no scruples
Ever thought about what’s “fair” when it comes to politics?
If it’s said that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, then what’s fair in politics is much more personal than even surface amour. One can find beauty in almost anything, but discovering fairness where the Democrats and Republicans of the Mid-Atlantic region are concerned, it’s a much more arduous challenge to remain neutral, indeed.
The topic is a hot one these days, particularly in Virginia, where the newly ascendant Democrat party and their figurehead, dreadful Governor Abigail Spanberger, has pushed through an amendment that would completely upset – and alter — the commonwealth’s congressional delegation balance. What is currently a 6-5 split (in Democrats’ favor) would expand to a 10-1 leftist margin if Virginia’s voters approve of the measure.
Virginia isn’t a red – or purple – state any longer, but it’s not exactly ocean blue, either. Now isn’t the time for Democrats to change the rules so brazenly, and conservatives worry that the preponderance of low-information-type voters that handed Spanberger power just might be roused to rubberstamp a gerrymander for the dark side, too.
Not so fast? There are signs – a few – that the Democrats’ scheme may fail. In an article titled, “Why Are Virginia Democrats Suddenly Nervous About the Redistricting Amendment?”, Stephan Kapustka wrote at the American Spectator:
“HJ4 … would amend the Virginia Constitution to abolish the commonwealth’s independent redistricting commission and allow Democrats to redraw congressional districts to favor their party. Passed by both chambers of the Virginia legislature and signed by Spanberger on Feb. 6, 2026, the amendment now must be approved by Virginia voters to take effect…
“… Democrats have argued that they are responding to a Republican gerrymandering onslaught begun by Texas at Trump’s instigation. For example, [Congressman Don] Beyer told NBC News that ‘[w]e have to effectively make the case that even though this seems unfair in Virginia, it’s totally fair for America, for those of us who believe that taking back the House is the most significant thing we can do to stop Donald Trump.’
“[A spokesman for the Republican Party of Virginia said]: ‘[I]n 2020, Virginia voters went to the polls and overwhelmingly decided to take politicians out of the business of redistricting by creating a nonpartisan redistricting commission. Now, Virginia Democrats are using millions of dollars in out-of-state liberal Dark Money to try to abolish the commission and rig our fair maps to give themselves a 10-1 advantage. Even worse, they are attempting to intentionally deceive voters into approving a partisan power grab that would create the most extreme gerrymander anywhere in the country. Voters don’t want this, and when they learn the truth they will soundly reject this dishonest and underhanded scheme at the ballot box.’”
We can only hope this is the case. It’s all pretty unbelievable that such a thing could happen here, right under the guise of an electorate that, not too long ago, had Republicans in every state constitutional office and enjoyed relative prosperity and competent leadership headed by former Republican Governor Glenn Youngkin.
I had to remind myself that 2026 dawned with Youngkin still in the governor’s chair. Then Mid-January arrived and the Spanberger front (along with the new heavy-D majority state legislature) slithered in and blocked out the sun. No wonder this winter has featured crazy cold periods. There just wasn’t any sunlight getting through the gloomy frigid overcast.
And, as if last November’s election results weren’t stomach churning enough, right-thinking, pro-liberty Virginians are now needing to endure regular TV spots starring “The One” Barack Obama lying and imploring his party’s commonwealth peeps to come out and vote for “fairness” in elections to counteract… who else, President Donald Trump!
To Democrats, “fair” means Virginia’s district maps would be gerrymandered to death (assuming a map can die) just because legislatures in other states acted to reflect mid-decade population and inward migration shifts in those places. But Democrats – including a good many, like Barack Obama – aren’t necessarily reacting to significant variations in population migration trends. No, they’re upset because the partisan balance in the commonwealth’s congressional delegation only slightly favors the braying donkey party at current.
Have they forgotten that Virginia hasn’t had a Republican senator since, what, George Allen earlier this century?
I don’t feel like my views are represented in the Senate by supposed “moderate” Democrats like Senators Tim Kaine and Mark Warner. These two morphed into typical “Chucky” Schumer-type supporters, so much so they rarely break with the solid Democrat bloc (minus Pennsylvania’s John Fetterman) on all “major” issues. Stuff goes by month after month with nary a peep from Kaine and Warner protesting over-the-top grandstanding by Democrat leadership.
They’re appalling. And now Democrats seek to turn the commonwealth’s federal lower chamber representatives into the second coming of Maxine Waters, Rashida Tlaib and Jasmine Crockett. For that’s what the “new” Virginia congresspeople would act like if they got a chance to swim across the Potomac River and squat in that big marble building with the dome on top.
I’ve said it before, Virginia was the colonial era birthplace of statesman such as George Washington, Patrick Henry, James Madison and Thomas Jefferson, but the new conglomeration of brainless and self-centered pols would pal around with the likes of Alexandria Ocasio Cortez and Hakeem Jeffries instead. So much for building statues – who would commission artistic works to commemorate the new clique’s contributions to America?
Spanberger’s smirking mug would present a difficult test for any sculptor to chisel into granite. For sure.
The Virginia ballot question, like everything else in Democrat-land, is based on lies, deceit and outright distortions in the name of “fairness” and pulling a snow-job, once again, on the most ignorant and uninformed citizens in an attempt to motivate them to turn out and vote for something they know not about, have done precious little research regarding and given practically zero thought into what they’re doing.
Why? Because Barack Obama told them to do it. Is there a more blatant example of Democrats pandering to liberal African-American voters than this one?
The next thing you know Obama and the last few semi-popular Democrats will haunt college campuses so as to stir first-time voters to register and vote “yes” on the question. Shameful.
According to Kapustka’s article, Democrats are worried because the early returns show Republicans exceeding their 2025 turnout numbers in key areas, while Democrat voters lag behind.
Also, this blatant attempt to steal congressional seats lacks the main message themes from last year’s election, namely that Republicans caused the government shutdown – which Democrats forced by filibustering the continuing resolution – and the bogus “Trump’s affordability problem” that shortsighted people bought into so Democrats could displace Trump-backing Virginia politicians.
Republican gubernatorial candidate Winsome Earle-Sears never had a chance to succeed Youngkin. Neither did able Attorney General Jason Miyares who succumbed to a Democrat onslaught of fibs in his try to best scumbag Jay Jones who, in any other year, would certainly have disqualified himself as unfit to hold office because of his sick mindset.
Democrats’ main strategy appears to be to prevail on the gerrymandering question by pulling Obama out of mothballs (he’s held no office for going on ten years) and showing lots of images of Trump in their political advertising on the topic. Sure, like Trump has anything to do with these campaigns. Again, shameful.
From what I’ve noticed, Republicans have been doing a respectable job representing their side of the matter having been vastly outspent by Democrats hoping to get something for someone else’s money. Leftist billionaires have an endless supply of cash for liberal campaigns, and they rely on voters who know nothing – or next to nothing – to provide them ballots.
Virginia’s experience in the past couple elections (including this one) should be more than sufficient incentive for Republicans to pass the SAVE America Act. We can use all the election integrity we can get, knowing Democrats will never do anything to assure that the process is foolproof.
Frankly, I’m surprised Democrats aren’t tying the Iran War and gas prices into this simple, one-question election. They’ll use anything to get what they want.
Chances are, both sides of the Virginia issue have something to be hopeful about in the early returns. Democrats have their star-studded promotional line-up and lots of money to give them encouragement. Republicans have common sense and a southwestern Virginia base that’s been alerted to the stakes at hand. Here’s hoping Commonwealth voters haven’t completely lost their senses.
