The U.S. economy added 29,000 jobs in September, according to the BLS. The unemployment rate remained at 4.2%, showing little change from previous months. The September report shows an economy with signs of slowing, following an average monthly gain of 45,000 over the last year. Healthcare employment, a critical driver of job growth, added 17,000 positions in September. On average, the healthcare industry added 33,000 jobs per month in the last year. The September report is a stark decline from the 162,000 jobs added in August.
